Richard A. Rappaport was born in New York City and has lived in Salt Lake City, Utah since July of 1970.

Mr. Rappaport attended Columbia College, graduating in 1965 with a degree in political science. He attended law school at Columbia Law School, receiving his JD in 1968 cum laude. He was an editor of the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems.

Mr. Rappaport served as a law clerk to the Honorable John W. Oliver, Federal District Judge, in the Western District of Missouri.

Mr. Rappaport's area of practice has been heavily concentrated in real estate: real estate finance, real estate related litigation, negotiating mortgage loans, real estate development, zoning, commercial and business litigation, as well as construction law. He has represented title insurance companies with respect to a myriad of title problems. Some of the appellate cases which reflect this work include: Espinoza v. Safeco Title Ins. Co., 598 P.2d 346 (Utah 1979), Rotta v. Hawk, 756 P.2d 713, First Security Mortgage Co. v. Hansen, 631 P.2d 919 (Utah 1981), Country Oaks v. Jones, 211 Ut. Adv. Rep. 3 (Utah 1993), Coulter & Smith v. He has represented the manufactured housing industries in obtaining fair treatment from governmental entities and was successful in obtaining a consent decree from Salt Lake as part of the federal litigation which required the County to eliminate any discrimination against manufactured housing.

When the Utah Supreme Court required mandatory continuing legal education for bar members, Mr. Rappaport was appointed by the Supreme Court as one of 15 persons to the newly constituted Utah State Board of Legal Education to establish and implement rules and procedures for the continuing legal education program. He was subsequently appointed to the Board by the Utah Supreme Court for a second term.

Mr. Rappaport is a lecturer of the National Business Institute and has lectured to attorneys, real estate professionals and title company personnel on "Real Estate Law" and "Advanced Real Estate Law."
